Digital thermometers are the most accurate way to measure body temperature. There are many types, including oral, rectal, and forehead, plus many that are multifunctional.
A reading of 98.6° F (37° C) is just the average rectal temp. A normal low can be 96.8° F (36° C) in the morning. It can change to a high of 100.3° F (37.9° C) late in the day. This is a normal range.
For rectal and forehead thermometers, 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) or higher is considered a fever for babies—and is a sign that your little one’s body is fighting off an illness
Generally, a baby’s head feels warmer than the body temperature because their thermoregulation system is not properly developed. Thermoregulation is the phenomenon of regulating the internal temperature of the body.
The best way to check if your little one is the correct temperature is to put your hand on the child’s chest and examine whether their chest feel comfortable and warm. It should not be hot or cool to your touch. Touching your baby’s hands and feet is not a good way to determine if your child is warm enough.
