- Decide whether to use the diaphragm or bell. The diaphragm, or flat side of the drum, is better for hearing medium- or high-pitched sounds. The bell, or round side of the drum, is better for hearing low-pitched sounds.

FAQ:
Do not bend or contort the tubing of your stethoscope, as this can cause tearing in the PVC. One of the most common ways that this happens is by stuffing a stethoscope in your pocket, so try to avoid this practice. The tubing is one of the most fragile parts of your stethoscope, and as a result is most prone to damage.
The majority of tubing used on stethoscopes is made of PVC (polyvinylchloride), which becomes hard when exposed for long periods of time to the lipids found in human skin.
An acoustic stethoscope works by channelling more sound waves toward your ears than would otherwise reach them.
A stethoscope can be used on animals or human beings. Medical professionals are taught how to use stethoscopes but you too can learn how to use a stethoscope and use it on yourself.
A regular stethoscope is designed to allow a user to listen to the inner workings of the body, such as a heartbeat, a pulse in an extremity, a bowel sound or fluid in the lungs. A cardiology stethoscope allows the user to listen for and identify specific heart sounds such as clicks, murmurs and rubs.
