Directions for Use
- Center the nipples in the flanges. Lean forward slightly and turn the pump on.
- Keep the pump at slow speed and low suction. This simulates how a baby sucks. It can be jarring to the body to pump at more intense settings.
- Pump for 7 minutes. You may see nothing coming out at first and this is normal. A few minutes into the pumping, you will have a “let-down,” where the milk starts to flow.
- Stop the pump for 1 minute and massage the breast, coming down from the armpit to the nipple, all around. This gives the breast a break and allows it to reset, in a sense.
- Pump for 7 more minutes and then store the milk.
- It is important to pump for 15 minutes, even if the milk stops flowing. The pumping stimulates the breasts to maintain milk supply. Some parents (not all) notice that their supply decreases over time if they only pump a few minutes until the flow stops.
Safety Information
- Carefully wash all the components (Excluding the motor body, mains adaptor, membrane, valve, silicone cover and the silicone tubes) using hot water and washing up liquid, thoroughly rinse and dry carefully using a soft and clean cloth.
- When the breast pump is not used, always disconnect the mains adaptor from the mains.
- As a precaution, always remove the batteries from the motor body if the breast pump is powered by the mains adaptor and/or if it is not used for a long time.
- Take care that you do not lose the connector, if it is lost you may not be able to use the appliance.
- Make sure that the valve is always removed in a gentle way; do not use any tool for cleaning it because it may be damaged, making the breast pump impossible to use.
- Also, clean and sanitize the feeding bottle and its accessories, according to the instructions included with the bottle.
FAQ:
Some women plan to head back to work after having their babies, and they’ll be pumping at least once a day, if not more. An electric breast pump will be a big time-saver for these moms since it helps them express milk more quickly than a manual pump.
An electric breast pump is the ideal choice for women who express regularly or exclusively as it is faster than a manual pump, allowing you to express and store more breastmilk in a shorter space of time. This is also perfect for mothers who need to express in the workplace and may only have limited time to do so.
For a mother who cannot spend much time on expressing milk, an electrical pump is the safest bet though it may be a lot more expensive than manual pumps.
The American Academy of Pediatrics emphasize that all babies should get human milk and recommend exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months. But when a woman cannot produce milk, pumped milk from a donor is a better option than formula.
Once you begin to pump, there should be a small amount of air around your nipple. During the first 10-15 seconds, you may feel a bit uncomfortable as your nipples start to stretch. Then as your milk starts to flow, you may feel a tingling pins and needles sensation. But pumping shouldn’t hurt.
Manual breast pumps are cheaper than electric models, quiet and handy for occasional expressing. But they can be hard work if used frequently, as you have to keep pumping the handle to create the vacuum. Electric breast pumps are easier and more convenient to use, as the motor does the pumping for you.
- Can relieve engorgement and prevent mastitis.
- Allow you to provide breast milk when nursing isn’t an option due to challenges or other complications.
- Pumps give your partner or other caregivers the ability to help lactation with feedings and enhance their bond with baby.
- Help you build and maintain an adequate milk supply.
- Allow you to do other things that require you to be away from baby for a few hours without missing a feeding.
- Make it easier to maintain your breast pumping goals by providing the ability to pump once you return to work.
Mastitis is an inflammation of breast tissue that sometimes involves an infection. The inflammation results in breast pain, swelling, warmth and redness. You might also have fever and chills. Mastitis most commonly affects women who are breast-feeding (lactation mastitis).
