Description
- Electral is a mixture of electrolytes (salts), and carbohydrates (in the form of sugar), which are dissolved in water.
- Glucose facilitates the absorption of sodium (and water) on a 1:1 molar basis in the small intestine.
- Sodium and potassium are electrolytes that are needed to replace the fluid loss that occurs due to diarrhoea and vomiting.
- Citrate corrects the acidosis that occurs as a result of diarrhoea.
- Used to replace salts and water that the body loses when you have dehydration caused by gastroenteritis, diarrhoea, or vomiting.
- Unlike other fluids, the proportion of salts and sugar in an Electral ORS matches what the body needs to recover.
Composition
Each sachet (4.40 g) contains:
- Sodium Chloride I.P 0.52 g
- Potassium Chloride I.P 0.30 g
- Sodium Citrate I.P 58 g
- Dextrose Anhydrous I.P 2.70 g
- Excipients q.s
Direction of Use
- Wash your hands, jar / glass and spoon.
- Dissolve 4.4 g of Electral ORS Powder in 200 ml drinking water.
- Stir the solution with spoon and drink.
Note: Discard the solution that remains unused for 24 hours after preparation
Dosage
- Infants (1 Month to 1 Year): 1 – 1 ½ times usual feed volume.
- Children (1 year to 12 years): 200 ml (~1 cup) after every loose motion.
- Children (12 years and above): 200 to 400 ml (~1 to 2 cups) after every loose motion.
- Adults: Drink freely as required.
- Use during pregnancy and lactation: There are no special problems with this group. The dose is the same as adult dose.

FAQ
Electral ORS is a vital combination of several essential electrolytes like sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium citrate and dextrose anhydrous.
Fizzy drinks, juices, tea, coffee and sports drinks are not suitable during diarrhea because of their high sugar content which is likely to worsen diarrhoea.
Electral ORS is useful in conditions of diarrhea, vomiting and when there is loss of water and electrolytes as it is a good replacement of lost fluids and electrolytes.
The dose should be appropriately adjusted as per the requirement for maintenance and replacement of fluids; so should be consumed as recommended by your doctor.
ORS drink is more effective than water because water doesn’t contain many essential electrolytes as ORS.
