Direction of Use:
- Â Ease the stocking over your foot and heel; ensure that your heel fits into the heel pocket.
- Ease the rest of the stocking up over your ankle, calf and thigh .
- Smooth out any wrinkles and make sure the heel is in the heel pocket and the inspection hole is under your toes / ball of foot.

When compression stockings are recommended after surgery, they should usually be worn as much as possible, day and night, until you’re able to move around freely. Compression stockings are used after surgery to prevent blood clots developing in the leg.
The biggest difference between Anti-Embolism Stockings (TED Hose) and Medical Compression stockings is the compression level and the medical reason for which it is worn.
Only remove the stockings for washing / bathing or showering.
Compression socks come in compression levels starting at 15-20 mmHg, ranging all the way to 40-50 mmHg. TED(Thrombo-Embolus Deterrent) hoses are for immobilized or bedridden patients. They come in lower grade compression, 8-18 mmHg, because they are prescribed for post-surgical use on patients who will be laying flat.
Although the application of compression stockings can appear simple, it must be remembered that inappropriately worn stockings have the potential to cause significant problems. Unevenly distributed and excess pressure may break the skin, especially in older, malnourished persons and those with thin, brittle skin.
