Silicone is a man-made material. It is a clear, durable substance that doesn’t age as easily as latex. It doesn’t retain flavours like latex, and it’s tasteless. A silicone teat is also slightly harder in the mouth.
Silicone teats are by far the most common option for baby bottles worldwide. They are more durable and most importantly proven safe for babies.
Keep teats/ nipples dipped in warm boiled water to soften them up. Do it multiple times to soften them up properly. It makes it easier for transitioning to bottle.
The followings signs indicates to change the teat size:
- Becoming impatient or aggravated when eating.
- Taking longer than 20 mins to finish a feed or they fall asleep on the bottle.
- Sucking hard and/or the teat collapsing in on itself.
The following signs reveals if teat is too slow
- Sucking 3 or more times before swallowing.
- Pulling off the nipple and crying after a few sucks.
- Biting and tugging on the nipple.
- Losing interest in sucking.
