FAQ
Nipple is used to prepare flat or inverted nipple for breastfeeding and helps your baby latch on properly.
Yes. Medela nipple formers are comfortable to wear; its discreet shape and flexible silicone membrane will be gentle on your skin which means that they are pleasant and invisible to wear under clothes
The shell of the medela nipple former is made of polypropylene and the membrane is of silicone material.
Flat or inverted nipples can make breastfeeding difficult as babies can have troubles in latching on correctly to these nipples which leads to sore nipples. Nipple formers apply gentle pressure on the areola to gradually force the nipple out to facilitate breast feeding.
It can be started during pregnancy (from about 32nd week onwards). Initially, start wearing the nipple former for one hour a day and gradually increase it up to approximately 8 hours a day and also after birth wear it between feedings (1/2 – 1 hour before breastfeeding).
It is advised to avoid wearing nipple formers at night to prevent tender spots.
